I'm late in getting this blog posted, been a lot going on and I've started it several times now. Goal for today: Finish It! lol
For the past few months I've been working on creating new products for Patchwork Jane's, including handbags and zipper pouches. I'm not going to lie, it was a tad difficult and still is at times. But after my first attempt at a bag for myself, I signed up for the Bag of the Month Club and tackled Betz White's Backgammon bag. I was nervous but excited to try something a bit more challenging!
I love this bag because it's big enough to hold quite a bit yet not so big you feel like you are carrying a suitcase. Plus it has an inside zip pouch and I added slip pockets as well. ;) But most of all I love the adjustable strap!
My mom has been wanting me to make her a new purse and I was a little nervous. Finding the right pattern and fabric was daunting at first, but once I got everything planned and figured out, it all came together beautifully!! I chose a beautiful bright blue Kaufman, medium weight Linen, as the main fabric. Then I paired it with a gorgeous floral fabric, with birds and hummingbirds, and a pretty coral Art Gallery fabric with Dandelions wisps. I needed fabric for the slip pocket and zipper pockets, and the Art Gallery matched perfectly! In the picture below the bag is all cut out and I was centering the slip pocket for the inside lining.
I also made a cute little zip pouch to go with her bag, for her little items. I was ecstatic once it was all finished and seeing my mom's face light up when I gave it to her for Mother's Day, made the late night to finish it, worth it. It took me about 2 days of cutting, interfacing, and sewing both the handbag and the zipper pouch. I'm still new at bag making so it takes me a bit longer than someone who sews a lot of bags, I think, but overall I was thrilled with the results. I plan on making several more in the future! :)
The finished product! I've attached 2 photos, one with a mannequin modeling them in my dark basement (yes I seriously need more lighting!!) and one of them outside in the bright sunlight. <3
Thank you for reading my post! <3
